GREAT FALLS - NorthWestern Energy reports that hundreds of customers are without power on the west side of Great Falls.
A company spokesperson says it appears that an excavator of some sort hit underground power lines.
We will update you as we learn more.
(UPDATE, 5:18 p.m.) NorthWestern Energy estimates that about 1,650 customers are without power.
The outage stretches from the Northwest Bypass west of town along the Sun River and on the north side of Gore Hill.
The company now says that severe weather may have caused the outage; the reference to an excavator in the initial report was in reference to another minor incident, according to the power company.
Crews are working to restore power.
(UPDATE, 5:57 p.m.) NorthWestern Energy spokesman Butch Larcombe says that power restored at about 5:30 p.m.
